Friday march 1st we'll show y'all what musicianship is all about, cause we're playin' the Bruce 'n' Blues club in Lebbeke (Belgium).  So if you want to hear what a 12-bar-boogie arrangement of postpunk sounds like, you'll have to come and see us ... or not.

As you all know, Blackup‘s first album “Ease & Delight” was released early last year. It’s first pressing sold out in a month. They did play lots of gigs, did a short treck with the Hot Snakes through Europe and played key, major, cities like Berlin, Geneva, Paris and Brussels. The press was incredible! Looks like people need music like this! This month they did the support for METZ at a sold out Merleyn, Nijmegen. They will do some more supports with them in March.





Now we’re in 2013. Last December, they did a session with their trusted 5th member, Pieter Van Buyten (Flip Kowlier/The Kids) at Studio Jezus in Antwerp. With the much appreciated help of Pascal Deweze (Sukilove/Broken Glass Heroes). Expect some great releases in the near future:

2. BLACKUP/BRAT FARRAR split 7″

METZ + BLACKUP

 

Wat goed is komt snel. Die uitspraak is regelmatig van toepassing op artiesten, zo ook op deze uit Toronto afkomstige band. Je hoort eigenlijk alles dat goed is aan luide extatische livemuziek terug in de muziek van Metz.

Frontman Alex Edkins en drummer Hayden Menzies maakten sinds 2008 samen muziek. In 2011 vroegen zij bassist Chris Slorach om hen te vergezellen en het trio Metz was geboren. Nog geen jaar later presenteren zij hun titelloze debuutalbum op het Sub Pop-label. Met Metz gaat Sub Pop eigenlijk terug naar de roots: de tijden dat het label grossierde in kwalitatief hoogstaande rock en noise zoals Nirvana, Soundgarden en Mudhoney.

Dit explosieve schijfje -met daarop 11 nummers die in 30 minuten voorbij denderen- werd geproduceerd door Graham Walsh van Holy Fuck. Metz is bruut, hard, rauw, snel en inventief en geeft een vette knipoog naar bands als Big Black, The Pixies, Nation of Ulysses, Jesus Lizard, Shellac en Hot Snakes.

Blackup bestaat uit vier Gentse heren die hun sporen in de muziek al verdienden in bands als Fifty Foot Combo, Thee Andrew Surfers en The Ewings. In 2009 besloten ze om Blackup op te richten, gezien hun gezamenlijke interesses verder bleken te gaan dan eten, drinken, tuinieren en werken. Inmiddels is Blackup een geoliede punkrock en gestroomlijnd rock-‘n-roll beest waar ze muzikaal meteen hun handelsmerk van maakten. Ze doen de supports voor de aanstaande shows van Rocket from The Crypt maar ook vanavond van Metz in Merleyn.
